Lung Foundation Australia’s Lung Cancer National Program has developed the following resources for Health Professionals.
Australia and New Zealand Lung Cancer Nurses Forum (ANZ-LCNF)
The Australia and New Zealand Lung Cancer Nurses Forum website (ANZ-LCNF) is designed for the passionate nurses who make up the ANZ-LCNF.
Their common focus is improving patient care, health care delivery and outcomes for lung cancer patients, their families and carers. This network provides an opportunity for debate, education and knowledge transfer throughout the continuum of treatment.
Established by the Lung Foundation and endorsed by the Cancer Nurses Society of Australia (CNSA), this special interest group will also encourage nurses who have extensive experience to mentor those nurses who are new to the area. For more information visit the ANZ-LCNF website.
Australasian Lung cancer Trials Group (ALTG)
The Australasian Lung cancer Trials Group (ALTG) is Australia and New Zealand’s lung and thoracic cancer clinical research group. The ALTG is a multi-disciplinary organization dedicated to reducing the incidence, morbidity and mortality of lung and other thoracic cancers and improving the quality of life of these patients, carers and families in Australia and New Zealand through the coordination and facilitation of high quality clinical research.
The ALTG collaborates with a number of organizations including the NHMRC Clinical Trials Centre (CTC) and Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. Both of these groups are leaders in Australia for the design, conduct, analysis and publication of oncology clinical trials, including working with both Australia and international collaborative groups.
The specific objectives of the ALTG are:
- To facilitate participation in the development, conduct, evaluation, reporting of clinical trials in lung and thoracic cancer.
- To promote the use of clinical trials in evaluating new treatments and management approaches for lung and thoracic cancer.
- To contribute to the translation of clinical trial findings into clinical practice
Australian Lung Cancer Conference (ALCC)
Lung Foundation Australia proudly hosts the bi-annual Australian Lung Cancer Conference (ALCC). The ALCC is a multidisciplinary meeting with participation from all professional groups involved in lung cancer care, including medical, surgical, radiation, nursing, pharmacy, research, psychology and other disciplines. Consumers are encouraged to attend.
The ALCC is run over three-days and is held in a different state. It is the most significant national multidisciplinary lung cancer meeting in Australia.
The next conference will be held in August/ October 2014 – venue and date to be confirmed early 2013.

Kylie Johnston Lung Cancer Network (KJLCN)
The Kylie Johnston Lung Cancer Network (KJLCN) is the patient/carer initiative of Lung Foundation Australia, and aims to empower lung cancer patients, their families and carers with reliable and up to date information, with support and advocacy, no matter who they are and where they live.

KJLCN On line forum
The KJLCN On line forum provides lung cancer patients, their families and carers with the opportunity to connect with other people living with lung cancer via a moderated web based forum.
To register to the forum, go to www.kjlcn.org.au and click on the Online Forum button on the top right hand side of the homepage.
Once you have registered, you can read the posts that have been placed on the forum or submit your own post. You can expect to hear back from other patients from around Australia who live with lung cancer.
KJLCN On-line Resource Directory
The On-line Resource Directory provides lung cancer patients, their families and carers with a comprehensive range of direct links to reliable information and resources available from Australian cancer organisations as well as several international lung cancer organisations. These resources include booklets, fact sheets, webpages and videos.
If you or someone you love has lung cancer, the material available in this directory will help your understanding and allow you to make sense of what is happening.

International Thoracic Oncology Nursing Forum (ITONF)
The International Thoracic Oncology Nursing Forum (ITONF) is an international organisation for those who are directly caring for people with lung cancer or mesothelioma in a nursing role.
The ITONF is a group of avid nurses with a common focus of improving patient care, health care delivery and outcomes for patients, their families and carers. This network provides an opportunity for debate, education and knowledge transfer throughout the continuum of treatment. This setting also allows Nurses who have extensive experience to mentor those nurses who are new to the arena.
The purpose of the ITONF are:
- Provide a platform where, globally, nurses can work together, collaborate and network
- Learn and share with colleagues from around the world
- Bring together many organisations and nursing roles
- Formalise and enhance nurse involvement and visibility in future events
Membership is open to all nurses who are either in a nursing academic or research role and who have a special interest in lung cancer or mesothelioma.
