Participant Summary Page
You have been invited to consider taking part in a six month long study as you have COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease). This disease may also be known as “Chronic Bronchitis” or “Emphysema” or “Smokers’ Cough”.
- Some COPD treatments require twice daily use. The inhaler therapy in this study requires only once a day usage, which may help improve regular use of medicine.
- Over 800 patients will be invited to take part in this study worldwide.
- Expression of interest does not automatically mean that you will be able to participate in the study. You will need to discuss this with your study doctor and ask as many questions as you wish. Your study doctor will check whether or not you can take part in this research.
- If you can participate, you’ll be asked to stop taking your current medication for COPD that widen your airways, but you will be provided with a similar study medication instead, free of charge, for up to six months.
- There will be 3 treatment options and you will be given one of these options (one of two different doses of combined symptom relievers or a single symptom reliever). The decision about which treatment option you will be given is random, just like tossing a coin. Neither you nor your study doctor will know which group you are in.
- You will be required to see your study doctor four times in the first two weeks then monthly for six months. Most visits involve simple breathing checks and some other tests. At three visits you will need to be available for 7-8 hours for repeated breathing checks. You will be treated at no cost to you and you will be compensated for your time during these three long visits.
- You are required to complete a paper diary entry each day and an electronic diary entry twice a day.
- Participants continue to receive study treatment during the study whilst it is of benefit to them.
- More detailed participant information about the study is available from your study doctor.
Participation is completely voluntary.
