World Spirometry Day 2012
World Spirometry Day 2012 is an initiative organised by the Forum of International Respiratory Services in collaboration with the European Lung Foundation. The aim of World Spirometry Day 2012 in the year of the Olympics, is to encourage people of all ages to join the race for healthy lungs. Members of the general public will be informed about spirometry as an easy and non-invasive means to assess their lung health. The Australian Lung Foundation will be joining this global campaign by holding FREE spirometry events in every capital city around the country.
The campaign will launch on Wednesday June 27, 2012 and continue until September 2012, when the number of events held and people tested will be announced at the European Respiratory Society (ERS) Vienna Congress. We undertook a similar event in 2010 and achieved fantastic results with nearly 4000 Australian’s having their lungs checked.

The Australian Lung Foundation would like to sincerely thank all the allied health professionals, physicians, respiratory scientists, nurses, physiotherapists and others who volunteered their time to help make these events possible. The event coordination in the lead up to the campaign took consider time and dedication. A huge vote of thanks also must go to our volunteer consumers (COPD patients) who attended the various events and assisted on the day. The team spirit was fantastic and everyone involved worked very hard but enjoyed the day and the interaction with the general public.
Our Supporters
Special thanks to the industry partners that supported The Australian Lung Foundation to ensure the success of Test your Lungs Day.
Eli Lilly embarked on a global Day of Service across several of its affiliated offices. As part of the 2010 initiative, Eli Lilly worked with The Australian Lung Foundation to offer support in the lead up to Test your Lungs Day. Eli Lilly staff from Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide assisted the ALF by volunteering to carry out “pre-promotion” of the spirometry testing a week prior to the event on October 7. Armed with event resources, the Eli Lilly participants undertook a pharmacy outreach where team members approached targeted pharmacies offering leaflets, balloons and posters for distribution to the general public and in most instances, assisted with creating front window displays. Local businesses were also approached to ensure both staff and customers were aware of the upcoming event. The event promotional flyers were also distributed to members of the general public in high foot traffic areas adjacent to where the testing events would be held the following week. The Australian Lung Foundation is confident that this pre-promotion assisted with driving more consumers to the events in these locations. Our thanks to the Lilly team members for their participation and enthusiasm. We look forward to working with Eli Lilly again in the future.

Niche Medical generously offered to support our events nationally by providing FREE mouthpieces for all the EasyOne testing devices used around the country. In all, around 4275 mouthpieces were provided along with several loaned testing devices. Without the support from Niche Medical Test your Lungs Day would not have been the great success that it was!
Thanks also to CareFusion for the provision of several testing devices.
Air Liquide was a big part of the day also, providing air or helium to each of the testing event sites. Air Liquide staff volunteered their time to assist with balloon inflation for display purposes and also for give-away. Thanks to the AL team for their ongoing support.
