About
Australia is the first country outside the US to host the “Shine a Light on Lung Cancer” campaign.
The idea and inspiration for the shine a light movement originated in Boston, US, over five years ago under the leadership and guidance of Diane Legg, a lung cancer survivor and co-chair of Lung Cancer Alliance's (LCA) Massachusetts Chapter.
The LCA hopes to host 100 vigils across the US in 2011!
At this time, Lung Foundation Australia would like to acknowledge and thank Sydney family, Ian, Christie and Chloe O'Toole who enlightened our organisation to the Shine a Light on Lung Cancer initiative. In November, 2010 the O'Toole family raised much needed funds for lung cancer awareness in memory of their loving wife and mother, Jenny O'Toole. http://www.kjlcn.org.au/news/90-shining-a-light-on-lung-cancer
The Lung Foundation encourages everyone in Australia to either join a vigil or host their own vigil and shine a light on an awareness message that is close to your …lungs!
The Lung Foundation is ready to help you organise your local vigil and will provide you with:
- An event tool-kit
- Promotional flyer
- Promotional torches
- Local media relations support
Your event can be as big or as small as you want to make it – invite your family, friends, workmates and neighbours!
This year, the Lung Foundation’s focus will be to host an inaugural Shine a Light on Lung Cancer vigils in Sydney and Canberra.
The Lung Foundation extends a warm invitation to anyone to join these vigils or register their own vigil.
