Scientific Program for 2013 ARLDSC

 Lung Foundation Australia is working in partnership with Comcare Australia in the development of a National Nurses Education Program to care for patients with and asbestos-related disease (ARD)/mesothelioma.

We are looking for ten (10) Registered Nurses from each state, including rural/remote and indigenous.

If you are interested in being part of Australia’s FIRST Nursing Education pilot program for the care of patients with ARD/mesothelioma then fill out an expression of interest provided below:

Lungs In Action Heart Failure  training

This is entry level training for health professionals that work with patients who have COPD and heart failure. It describes the causes, symptoms, diagnostic techniques and management for heart failure patients. It also details how to exercise safely. A community based exercise maintenance class developed by Lung Foundation Australia to provide pulmonary rehabilitation graduates with a safe, supportive and social environment to maintain their physical gains and function. The Inaugural Australian Rare Lung Disease Short Course will be held on 9th and 10th August at the Intercontinental Hotel Sydney.

Australian Rare Lung Disease Short Course Registration Handbook

The 1.5 day short course is a joint venture between TSANZ and Lung Foundation Australia as part of the Lung Foundation's Pulmonary Interstitial Vascular Organisational Taskforce (PIVOT) initiative will focus on diagnosis and therapy for Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD) and scientific research with an international speaker and presentations from leading Australian specialists in ILD.

The short course will include an interesting and current program covering:

• How science has changed the clinical approach to Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD);
• Current approaches to ILD;
• Connective tissue disease associated with interstitial lung disease  (CT-ILD);
• Cystic Lung Disease;
• Adult – Diffuse Pulmonary Infiltrates;
• Idiopathic Interstitial Pneumonia including Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis;
• Investigative Paediatrics;
• Management of Specific Paediatric Conditions; and
• Challenges of transitioning to adult care.

Included with your registration to the short course is a Gala Dinner to be held on the Friday night (9^th August 2013) at the Intercontinental Hotel. The dinner will be a great social and networking opportunity to meet and catch up with colleagues who share your interest in Rare Lung Disease in Australia.

Tuffy is a much-loved regional Bank Manager in Bundaberg. With retirement in sight, Tuffy developed a persistent cough which became worse. After numerous doctor appointments and having been misdiagnosed for six months, Tuffy was finally diagnosed with lung cancer.
