The Australian Lung Foundation Lung Cancer ProgramCochrane Review Scholarship - 2009 / 2010
Background This scholarship is valued at $A1,500 and is specifically designed to assist a medical undergraduate in undertaking a research project into lung cancer. A scholarship of up to $1,500 will be offered to an undergraduate in 2010 to study Evidence-Based Medicine. This award is aimed at providing a systematic and up-to-date summary of reliable evidence of the benefits and risks of healthcare for lung cancer. It is envisaged that the project would be conducted during a designated undergraduate research elective period (or equivalent) or possibly as a component of a Bachelors degree. The Scholarship will be awarded for the purpose of undertaking a Cochrane Systematic Review of the Lung Cancer Program, and may be undertaken in conjunction with a senior Investigator.
Conditions •1. The scholarship will be competitive and is open to applications from undergraduate students in the School of Medicine or Nursing, Faculty of Health Science of any tertiary Australian and New Zealand facility. •2. Applications should include a summary of the rationale for the project, its design, the expected dates of commencement and completion. •3. The name and contact details of the principal project supervisor shall be included in the application. Applications also to include a support letter from principal project supervisor. •4. The principal project supervisor is required to sign off on interim and final reports. •5. Applicants are to note that a Cochrane Review is subject to the topic being registered by the relevant Cochrane Group. Applicants and their supervisors are to liaise with the Cochrane Group before this application is submitted •6. The successful applicant will each be required to submit a progress report six (6) months into the project and a final report at the conclusion of the project. Monies will be paid on the basis of 75% at the time of signing documentation and the balance on acceptance of the final report. •7. Grantees are expected to commence their project early in the year of the award. •8. If the Award is not taken up within twelve (12) calendar of months of being awarded, the monies will be forfeited. •9. The Australian Lung Foundation is to be advised of any publications arising from this award. Any publication(s) arising from this research should acknowledge The Australian Lung Foundation Lung Cancer Program Cochrane Review Scholarship as a source of support.
Eligibility Applicants must be a financial member/associate member of The Australian Lung Foundation and the Thoracic Society of Australia & New Zealand.
